AB21 Co-Chairs on the Success of The American Rescue Plan

Mar 11, 2022

Today marks one year since President Joe Biden signed the American Rescue Plan into law. To mark this historic progress the Biden-Harris Administration has made in putting America back on the road to recovery, American Bridge 21st Century co-chairs have released the following statements:

“President Biden’s American Rescue Plan has made crucial, intentional investments in Americans. These investments cut costs for families in every single community. President Biden and Democrats in congress met the scale of the COVID crisis head-on by investing in American housing, healthcare, childcare, education, and small businesses,” said Governor Steve Bullock. “This legislation lifted Americans up all over this country, but not one single Republican voted for it. Despite opposition from Republicans, the Biden-Harris Administration and Democrats in Congress delivered real, sustainable, results by passing the American Rescue Plan.”

“Thanks to the American Rescue Plan, Americans have had much of the help they’ve needed to emerge today from the worst public health and economic crisis in a hundred years,” said Governor Deval Patrick. “That’s because President Biden, with the support of Congress, made housing, healthcare, education, small business support — the things that make a difference to workers and their families — his top priority.”

“The pandemic had devastating effects on everyone, especially workers – but thanks to President Biden’s legislative agenda, the pace of our recovery right now is literally five times faster than the Great Recession in large part because the American Rescue Plan was passed,” said Secretary Tom Perez. “The numbers speak for themselves. Democrats have delivered a roaring economy. Businesses are booming and overall wages are up – and a record 678,000 jobs were created last month. Last year, President Biden grew the economy by the fastest rate in 49 years. We’re grateful for President Biden’s responsible leadership during this crisis.”

“One year ago, our country was in a very different place and facing a massive crisis brought on in part by the poor leadership shown by the Trump administration. But thanks to the American Rescue Plan, families received the relief that they needed to get through,” said Cecile Richards. “By passing this key legislation – President Biden and Democrats directly cut costs for families, but they were opposed every step of the way by Republicans. In large part due to the American Rescue Plan, President Biden has created a record seven million jobs, and his administration remains focused on lowering costs for working families so that every American can share in the benefits of a growing economy. Meanwhile, Republicans have no plan to help middle-class families. This November, Republicans will have to answer for opposing the legislation that got us on the other side of the COVID crisis.”
