AB21 Co-Chairs Speak on the Economy, Midterms, and SCOTUS

Apr 04, 2022

American Bridge 21st Century Co-Chairs Governor Deval Patrick and Secretary Tom Perez have been on air talking about President Biden’s strong economic agenda, the upcoming midterm elections, and the historic nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court.

On Friday, Secretary Perez joined Bloomberg Radio’s Balance of Power to discuss the March jobs report and Democratic strategy going into the midterms. He emphasized the success of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the American Rescue Plan. Secretary Perez also pointed out that while Democrats are delivering for families – Republicans are launching another attack on the Affordable Care Act.

“President Biden inherited some remarkable challenges and we keep fighting back,” said Secretary Perez. “The resilience of our business community, the resilience of our workers is a big part of that. More and more people are vaccinated, boosted, and we’re seeing that the economy is continuing to be resilient… The reason I have optimism going into the midterm elections is that we have an unprecedented infrastructure bill that is a bipartisan infrastructure bill. And as these next six months ensue, people and communities across the country are going to continue to see how – because of Joe Biden and Democrats – their lives are improving, roads are being built, mass transit is being built. They have money in their pocket. This is how we tell that story. The American Rescue Plan has been a godsend for so many people. And we need to continue to tell that story relentlessly, underscoring what we stand for, what we’re fighting for.”

Today, Gov. Patrick joined Sirius XM’s Julie Mason Mornings to discuss Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s Supreme Court nomination and the need for Democrats to focus on the economy going into the midterms. Throughout the interview, Governor Patrick emphasized Judge Jackson’s strong judicial record and spoke to the fact the Democrats have been delivering for Americans.

“You’ve got one party that has been working very, very hard to repair the economy, to get people back to good jobs at higher wages… That has expanded health care under Obamacare to over 10 million more Americans,” said Governor Patrick. “That is working on driving down prescription drug costs and on and on and on. That has the largest infrastructure investment in American history, which means an awful lot of jobs… You have that on one side and you have on the other side a party with no agenda that is trying to figure out how to get attention.”
