Ahead of Betsy DeVos’s nomination hearing in the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions today, American Bridge President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:
“Betsy DeVos is positioned to lead the agency that she has ruthlessly attacked for decades, supporting efforts to raid public funds and take control of children’s classrooms, primarily harming low-income communities and students of color. DeVos’s appointment will allow her to use her wealth to push radical education policy that will enrich her and her allies, but leave behind children who deserve a strong education in order to get a fair shot at the American dream.”
DeVos’s long history of buying off Republican politicians to support her agenda of privatizing public schools, waging culture war and promoting religion that ultimately pads her pocketbook disqualifies her from leading an agency that has an effect on millions of families in every corner of our nation.”
