American Bridge Statement On Trump's Pick Of Elaine Chao As Transportation Secretary

Nov 29, 2016

Donald Trump is today set to announce the selection of Elaine Chao as his Secretary of Transportation. In addition to having served as President George H.W. Bush’s deputy secretary of transportation, Chao also brings the expertise — and glaring conflict of interest — that arises from her family’s ownership of an international shipping company with deep ties to China.

American Bridge President Jessica Mackler statement on Donald Trump’s selection of Elaine Chao as Transportation Secretary:

“In Elaine Chao, Trump has found a Secretary of Transportation who served in each of the Bush administrations, and also happens to be married to the Senate Majority Leader, who has for his part been in Congress since 1985 — hardly is that Draining the Swamp.

“So far, Trump is setting himself up to use the presidency to personally profit at the expense of the American people, and he’s walking back campaign promises left and right. So we’ll believe Trump cares about rebuilding this country’s infrastructure when we see a comprehensive funding proposal that will create jobs — and a big federal contract to resuscitate Trump’s failed airline company doesn’t count.”
