This morning, during an interview with TALK! 100.7 FM in Utica, Claudia Tenney repeated and defended her unhinged claim about mass shooters often being Democrats, saying, “but yes, some of these people are Republicans, but yes, many do end up becoming – when you look them up, they become Democrats.” Later in the interview, Tenney even encouraged listeners to look up lists online that independent fact-checkers have refuted.
“It is outrageous and revolting that Congresswoman Tenney is continuing to spout this widely disproven conspiracy theory,” said American Bridge spokesperson Andrew Bates. “Maliciously exploiting a national tragedy for partisan purposes is absolutely disqualifying behavior for any elected official. Tenney’s refusal to face facts is a shocking act of disrespect for the people who are counting on her for leadership.”
In the aftermath of the tragic Parkland shooting, Tenney told a conservative radio host that, “many of these people that commit the mass murders end up being Democrats.”
A full week later, Tenney has dodged questions from reporters about her incendiary remarks, falsely claimed that she was quoted out of context, said she did not “regret” the comments, fund-raised off of her lie, and, this morning, repeated it.
PolitiFact gave Tenney’s initial claim a rating of “pants on fire.”
