FLASHBACK: Earlier this Year, Graham, Cassidy, Heller Said CBO Scores Vital to Vetting Health Care Bills

This week, Senate Republicans once against exposed their partisan hypocrisy by recklessly dismissing the need for a full CBO score of the Graham-Cassidy-Heller health care bill before voting on it, even though–as recently as this summer–Senators Dean Heller, Lindsay Graham, Bill Cassidy, and many others said they needed a CBO score to evaluate health care bills.

Without a CBO score, basic information such as how many people will lose coverage, how much premiums will increase, and how much more care for common pre-existing conditions will increase will not be known. The Senate GOP’s game plan is to keep Americans in the dark — because they know the more the American people learn about their latest Trumpcare plan, the more they hate it.

“The same senators trying to ram this latest disastrous Trumpcare bill though Congress were — just months ago — eloquently explaining why a comprehensive analysis by the Congressional Budget Office […]

American Bridge Response to Graham-Cassidy-Heller Bill Presser

Republicans just can’t stop trying to gut Americans’ health care. Today, in a press conference announcing the Graham-Cassidy-Heller ACA repeal bill, which would take away health care from millions of Americans, Senators Lindsey Graham (SC), Bill Cassidy (LA), Dean Heller (NV),  Ron Johnson (WI), and Former Senator Rick Santorum (PA) touted the plan.

American Bridge President Jessica Mackler offered the following response:

“Republicans like Dean Heller and Donald Trump are dead set on destroying health care in America and the proposal they unveiled today is just the latest example. They want to strip millions of Americans of their insurance, make health care more expensive, and end Medicaid as we know it – and the Graham-Cassidy-Heller scheme is the worst one yet. No matter how they try to spin it, there’s no denying the truth: Republicans are playing politics instead of helping the people they represent for partisan political gain. The American people will hold them accountable.”

Graham-Cassidy-Heller Plan Would Decimate Health Care for Millions

“Senate Republicans and Donald Trump are at it again — plotting behind closed doors to strip healthcare from millions of Americans. The Graham-Cassidy-Heller plan would end Medicaid expansion and cut traditional Medicaid, breaking their promises to the American people. If Republicans are hellbent on moving this disastrous plan forward, the American people will hold them accountable,” said American Bridge spokesperson Joshua Karp

The Hill: McCain backs Graham-Cassidy ObamaCare repeal effort
By Peter Sullivan – 09/06/17

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said Wednesday that he supports a newer version of an ObamaCare repeal-and-replace bill, throwing some support behind the last-ditch effort.
Asked if he thinks the bill has legs before Sept. 30, McCain said, “I do.”
“I think he’s getting a number of governors who are supportive of his approach to weigh in,” McCain said of Graham.

ANALYSIS: Turns Out Graham-Cassidy-Heller is the Worst Health Care Plan of All

Graham-Cassidy-Heller would cause “immediate, disproportionate harm”
and “radically restructure and deeply cut Medicaid.”
– Center on Budget and Policy Priorities Analysis

Dean Heller’s favorite health care plan, Graham-Cassidy-Heller, would decimate health care for hundreds of thousands of Nevadans and break every promise he made to his constituents about protecting their health care.

Heller endorsed Graham-Cassidy, calling it “the best way to go” and pushing it at the White House with Donald Trump.

Heller’s office told the Nevada Independent that “that the proposal would result in Nevada receiving more funding for Medicaid than it currently does under the Affordable Care Act.”

Today the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities released a new study about Graham-Cassidy-Heller, exposing just how devastating Heller’s plan would be for Nevada:

“The plan would eliminate the ACA’s marketplace subsidies and enhanced matching rate for the Medicaid expansion, replacing them with an inadequate block grant whose […]

Republicans Call for Jeff Sessions to Recuse Himself from Investigations

Jeff Sessions is in trouble – deep trouble. According to The Washington Post, then-Senator Jeff Sessions spoke twice last year with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak, considered by U.S. intelligence to be one of Russia’s top spies. However, during his confirmation hearings, Sessions stated “I did not have communications with the Russians.”

But he did. That’s perjury. Committing perjury under oath is serious – just ask 1999 Jeff Sessions.

“Jeff Sessions can not be trusted to tell the truth and oversee an impartial investigation of this Administration’s ties to Russia. If Republicans don’t recognize that he can no longer credibly serve as Attorney General, at minimum they must immediately put country ahead of party and join calls for him to recuse himself from this investigation,” said American Bridge Vice President Shripal Shah.

Take a look at the growing list of Republicans calling for Sessions to recuse himself:

Party Over Principle: Rubio, McCain, And Graham Fold On Tillerson

American Bridge President Jessica Mackler issued the following statement on Marco Rubio, John McCain, and Lindsey Graham kissing Trump’s ring on Rex Tillerson’s nomination:

“It’s disgraceful — but, ultimately, unsurprising — that the self-marketed anti-Putin and anti-Iran hawks are caving to Trump and now calling for U.S. foreign policy to be dictated by a man who is close friends with Vladimir Putin and who oversaw millions in sales with state sponsors of terrorism while he led ExxonMobil.”

After two weeks of putting on a show of standing up to Trump’s Putin-allied (and honored) secretary of State nominee Rex Tillerson, Senators Marco Rubio, John McCain, and Lindsey Graham have each folded and lined up behind Tillerson’s nomination.

Tillerson is so close to Russia that Vladimir Putin personally presented him with the “Russian Order of Friendship” award. And while Tillerson led Exxon, the company lobbied hard against U.S. sanctions on Russia — […]

See how easy that was?

Senator Lindsey Graham just said he “can’t” vote for Donald Trump in November.

Look how easy that was, Leader McConnell and Speaker Ryan. All you’ve got to do is admit that Donald Trump’s racism, bigotry, xenophobia, misogyny, volatile temperament, and amateur foreign policy ideas disqualify him from being commander in chief.

All you’ve got to do is say you can’t support him. This is how it’s done:

“I would like to support our nominee. I just can’t.”

Goodbye Graham — No Republicans Support Path To Citizenship

Jessica Mackler, president, American Bridge 21st Century: “Now that Marco Rubio and John McCain’s fellow Gang of Eight’er, Lindsey Graham, is out of the GOP presidential race, not a single Republican candidate supports a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants.

“It’s clear that the conservative dynamics, where opposing comprehensive immigration reform has become a litmus test, favor Rubio, Ted Cruz, and Donald Trump’s hardline positions at the expense of ruining the party’s credibility with one of the largest voting blocs in the general election. It’s mind boggling how far the Party of Donald Trump has run to the extreme, far right fringes and failed to even acknowledge the GOP rebrand, much less implement any of its moderating elements.”

Not-So-Happy Hour Debaters Renew Support For Trump Nomination

All four happy hour debaters set the bar for the prime time debate when they renewed their support for Donald Trump if he wins the Republican nomination. Wolf Blitzer put Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, and the rest of the prime time wolf pack on notice that they will have to defend their pledge to support Trump.

We can’t say we’re surprised by Huckabee, Santorum, or Pataki (who?), but Graham’s fire-breathing had us hoping for something more from the little league debate.

Take a look at their promises to support the xenophobic demagogue and get ready for more of the same at the main debate:

Republicans Refuse To Take Common-Sense Steps Against Gun Violence

Last night, Senate Republicans again refused to take action in response to the horrific and numerous mass shootings across the United States. Senate Republicans voted against an amendment to promote safety by keeping guns out of the hands of those on the terror watch list. They also voted against universal background check legislation after the murder of 14 innocent people at the hands of two gunmen in San Bernardino, California, and the shooting at a Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs that resulted in the murder of three.

“The vulnerable Republican senators who voted against these measures are effectively telling the American people that the will of the NRA comes before the safety of their families,” said American Bridge 21st Century President Jessica Mackler. “As voters prepare for 2016, they should keep in mind how their representatives addressed gun violence: cowering in inaction in the face of repeated, senseless tragedies in our communities.”

All of these GOP […]
