Price lied to the Senate about Trump sabotaging Obamacare

“Tom Price’s testimony today is directly at odds with Donald Trump’s own rhetoric. Trump has admitted he’s trying to sabotaging the Affordable Care Act all in the name of partisan politics – and even the healthcare industry is begging the Trump Administration to stop its petty tactics. Just like the President, the Secretary is a liar, and no one should believe a word he has to say,” said American Bridge spokesperson Andrew Bates.

Axios, 6/8/2017: “Price: No interest in ‘sabotaging’ ACA…Didn’t answer a question from Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow about why the administration won’t commit to paying for the ACA’s cost-sharing reduction subsidies.”

Politico, 5/19/2017: “President Donald Trump has told advisers he wants to end payments of key Obamacare subsidies, a move that could send the health law’s insurance markets into a tailspin, according to several sources familiar with the conversations.”

What is happening at HHS?

“The Trump Administration is already making health insurance more expensive by undermining the Affordable Care Act and now they’re taking “potentially illegal steps” to silence voices of dissent. Comrade Putin must be so proud,” said American Bridge spokesperson Andrew Bates. “As Republicans try to force Trumpcare on the country, costing 26 million Americans their health insurance to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy, the American people deserve to know what exactly Tom Price and his cronies are trying to hide. Nothing short of full transparency will do.”

Axios: Republicans scold Tom Price for “potentially illegal” HHS memo
David Nather

Two top congressional Republicans are warning Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price that a memo to HHS employees restricting their communications with Congress is “potentially illegal and unconstitutional” and could have a chilling effect on whistleblowers.

Why they spoke up: In a letter to Price, Senate Judiciary […]

On 5th Anniversary, Tom Price Is A Reminder of What the STOCK Act Seeks to Prevent

American Bridge Vice President Shripal Shah released the following statement on the fifth anniversary of President Obama signing the Stop Trading On Congressional Knowledge Act after it cleared Congress with overwhelming bipartisan support:

“Five years ago today, the STOCK was signed into law to stop the abuses of power Tom Price used to enrich himself at the expense of the American people.  But rather than investigate Congressman Price’s potentially illegal activity, Donald Trump promoted him to lead a Republican healthcare debacle that would kick 26 million Americans off of their insurance to give a few millionaires billions in tax cuts.  Donald Trump isn’t draining the swamp – he’s flooding it with corrupt cronies, lobbyists, and the super rich who are gaming the system at the expense of the American people.”

Front Pages in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin Highlight the Devastating Effects Trumpcare Would Have

This morning, American Bridge released new polling pinpointing that the repeal of Obamacare is one of the most unpopular aspects of Donald Trump’s agenda with voters who approved of President Obama’s record but who also supported Trump in November (“Obama/Trump” voters).

At the same time, front pages across Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin today highlighted the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office’s finding that repealing the Affordable Care Act and replacing it with Trumpcare would take health care coverage away from 24 million Americans.

This is despite Trump’s promise that he would provide “insurance for everybody.”

Here’s a look at what Americans in key states woke up to this morning:

Put Up or Shut Up on Obamacare Repeal and Replace

“The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office has demonstrated that repealing the Affordable Care Act would tear health care coverage away from tens of millions of hardworking Americans AND that no Republican alternative can insure nearly as many people. That’s why Republican members of Congress are panicking and avoiding thousands of outraged constituents across our country. Yet still Donald Trump’s Obamacare ‘replacement’ plan, which he promised would be superior to Obamacare, is nowhere to be found.  The time is here, and the question is, do you keep your promises or not?” said American Bridge Vice President Shripal Shah.

Donald Trump told the American people that he would release a “repeal and replace” plan “almost simultaneously” with the confirmation of Tom Price as Secretary of Health and Human Services:

Donald Trump, 1/11/2017: “We’re going to be submitting, as soon as our secretary is approved – almost simultaneously – shortly thereafter, a plan.  It’ll be repeal and replace.  It […]

American Bridge Statement on Tom Price’s Senate Confirmation Vote

Following Tom Price’s Senate Confirmation vote, American Bridge President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“Tom Price is a case study in how to use your Congressional Office to benefit yourself but sell out the American people.  Republicans have shown little regard for government ethics under the new administration, but turning a blind eye to Tom Price’s corrupt and potentially illegal dealings while in Congress represents a new low.

“Millions of Americans stand to lose their health care with Tom Price leading the Department of Health and Human Services, but Price, himself, will surely use his new position of power to line his own pockets. As a doctor, Tom Price made a promise to help others and do no harm. It’s a shame he won’t make that same promise for his new position in Trump’s cabinet.”

New Revelations About Rep. Tom Price’s Sketchy Stock Deals

American Bridge President Jessica Mackler issued the following statement on the latest revelations regarding Donald Trump’s HHS nominee Tom Price:

“Tom Price has been caught lying, again, about the discounted price he received as a member of Congress in this sketchy stock deal. This latest revelation not only raises further doubts about Price’s motives and priorities but proves that Americans can’t afford his record of corruption and self-enrichment leading such an important agency.”

American Bridge on Tom Price’s Nomination Hearing

Ahead of Rep. Tom Price’s second nomination hearing before the Senate Finance Committee today, American Bridge President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“Last week’s Senate grilling of Tom Price proved that Republicans have no plan to replace the Affordable Care Act, even as Price admitted health care coverage has improved as a result of the ACA. He couldn’t answer definitively that Donald Trump wouldn’t cut Medicare benefits and wants to prioritize taking away Medicaid benefits.

“Heading into his second hearing, the American people deserve to get a full accounting of Price’s potentially illegal stock purchases. We already know Price has a record of using his Congressional office to help companies in which he owned stock and took campaign contributions as a thank you.  The question now facing Price is whether he broke the law.

“All in all, you can be sure that Trump and Price will look for every opportunity to sell out […]
