Carlos De La Cruz is TX-35 Republican Nominee

May 26, 2026

Tonight, Carlos De La Cruz became the Republican nominee in Texas’s new 35th Congressional District.

“Carlos De La Cruz thinks he can win the TX-35 election on nepotism alone, forgetting that his sister Monica is just as out-of-touch as he is,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Monica Venzke. “He’s made clear that he’s eager to be ‘Trump’s wingman’ if elected to Congress. He has touted endorsements from President Donald Trump and Speaker Mike Johnson, the architects of policy making life infinitely harder for Texas families. He was also eager to accept endorsements from scandal-ridden congressmen, such as Ryan Zinke, Rich McCormick, Derrick Van Orden, and John McGuire, so we can be sure his judgment is absolutely terrible.

“Texans in the new 35th district deserve better, and that certainly isn’t Carlos De La Cruz.”

As a reminder, De La Cruz supports Trump and Mike Johnson, even though:

  • Trump and Speaker Mike Johnson were behind legislation that cut health care for 17 million Americans, including nearly 12 million Medicaid beneficiaries. More than 4.4 million people in Texas relied on Medicaid to obtain health insurance.
  • Trump and Johnson fought for the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill, which would trigger nearly $500 billion in Medicare cuts absent future congressional action. 3.4 million Texans relied on Medicare.
  • Mike Johnson worked around the clock to block legislative opposition to Trump’s costly tariffs. Johnson pulled several legislative maneuvers to ensure House Republicans supported tariffs that were raising prices on all Americans. In Texas, the tariffs were causing worsening job growth and increased prices for local businesses and their customers.
  • Trump and Johnson were behind the single largest cut to SNAP in history, cutting the food assistance Texans rely on to afford groceries.
