Cecile Richards Joins Jonathan Capehart To Discuss a Post-Roe America

On Sunday, American Bridge 21st Century Co-chair Cecile Richards joined Jonathan Capehart on MSNBC to discuss the reality women in America are facing if Roe is no longer in effect in this country.

Republicans want to move legislation to criminalize abortion, putting 36 million women at risk for jail time, felony charges, and potential punishment by death. The right to make our own decisions about our bodies under the Constitution are at risk under this very politicized and very possible Supreme Court ruling.

Key Quotes From Cecile Richards:

  • This decision or this opinion that’s been leaked would mean Roe is no longer in effect and half of the country would lose access to safe and legal abortion. But what we are already hearing from the Republicans that they are poised to introduce a six week abortion ban. If they are successful in taking control of Congress this November, that will be the first thing that they do. What that means is that states are rushing now to try to protect abortion access so that people would have somewhere to go. Those laws will no longer be in effect because we would then be blanketed with a national abortion ban and this country would become a place where safe and legal abortion was nonexistent.”
