Dan Sullivan Continues To Be a Menace to Medicaid 61 Years After It Became Law

Jul 30, 2026

61 years ago today, Medicaid became law, granting critical health insurance coverage and benefits to children, the elderly, and low-income Americans. Fast forward to today, Senate Republicans have decimated the program that tens of millions of Americans rely on, and Dan Sullivan is at the center of that assault on affordable coverage.

“Dan Sullivan has robbed thousands of Alaskans of affordable healthcare,” said American Bridge 21st Century Spokesperson Gus Nathanson. “His agenda is making life unaffordable for his constituents — and this November, he’ll answer for it at the ballot box.”

Sullivan was a staunch supporter of Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill which cut Medicaid by $1 trillion over 10 years and jeopardized health coverage for 36,000 Alaskans. Despite the bill hurting Alaskans, Sullivan claimed that Alaska was in “good shape” regarding Medicaid funding and that the bill was a “big win” for rural hospitals and healthcare.

When Sullivan faced attacks regarding his support of the Big Beautiful Bill, he dismissed them entirely, calling the criticisms “a bunch of bullshit.” And earlier this month, Sullivan went on record to praise the bill once again, falsely claiming, “There’s no state that did better than we did in that.”
