- Infamously claiming that the KKK “designed” the public school system to “hurt African-American children.”
- Bragging that one of his main interests is “rescuing education from teachers’ unions.”
- Pouring at least $750,000 into a campaign to end teacher tenure protections in Missouri, and additionally giving millions into the Show-Me Institute, a conservative think tank that advocates school privatization and sponsors research attacking public schools and teachers.
Meanwhile, Trump and DeVos’ education budget proposal is a full-on attack on America’s public schools that slashes $10.6 billion in federal education funding, including “hundreds of millions of dollars that public schools could use for mental health, advanced coursework.”
“The Secretary of Education meeting with a conspiracy theorist ideologue captures the Trump Administration at its core: right-wing GOP donors like DeVos and Sinquefield are able to buy influence and dictate a policy agenda that’s good for the wealthy but sells out the rest of the American people. In this case, millions of kids across the country will pay the price.”
