Donald Trump's budget puts those in need last

Mar 16, 2017

Today in his budget proposal Donald Trump told the country that he intends to end federal funding for Meals on Wheels, which delivers food to elderly Americans who face financial and other challenges all over the United States.

When asked if this budget, which pays for $54 billion in new military spending with large-scale cuts that will inflict great hardships on millions of Americans – such as ending funding for Meals on Wheels – was “hard-hearted,” OMB Director Mick Mulvaney said, “I don’t think so.  In fact, I think it’s probably one of the most compassionate things we can do.”

American Bridge Vice President Shripal Shah responded with the following statement:

“It is flooring, even for the Trump Administration, to describe taking food out of the mouths of senior citizens as “compassionate.” This budget puts Americans, and especially those in need, last – which is a travesty coming from a President who ran for office promising that he would bring much-needed help to people who are suffering economically. He is a fraud, and he can’t stop proving it in worse and worse ways.”
