On December 14, 2011, the Huffington Post reported:
In an interview with the Washington Post on Tuesday, Mitt Romney acknowledged that he was “wrong” not to sign Newt Gingrich’s Contract with America when he was running for the Senate in 1994.
But the “controversy” couldn’t be kept at arm’s length forever. At a senate debate in October 1994, the contract came up, and Romney was explicitly asked to state whether he supported the education cuts and reform included in it.
“Let me tell you, in my view it is not a good idea to go into a contract like was organized by the Republican Party in Washington,” he replied. “I think that is a mistake.”
