In just over twelve hours, Chris Christie will make his first appearance of the day in Iowa in an attempt to push the re-set button on his presidential ambitions. (Though maybe Christie’s got his sights set even higher …)
But much like New Jersey’s credit ratings, Chris Christie’s presidential prospects have been downgraded recently. Between New Jersey’s economic traffic jam under his watch and his attempt to rob workers’ pension funds to offset his budget shortfall, Christie’s tenure as governor is checkered to say the least.
Needless to say, this all comes on the heels of his ongoing Bridgegate fiasco, which has dealt a serious blow to Christie and his future ambitions by exposing his penchant for retribution. On top of this comedy of errors, he has recently takenserious flak for refusing to take positions on key issues — everything from immigration to transportation, from foreign policy to women’s access to contraception.
Yup, it’s safe to say Chris Christie is feeling the heat in New Jersey. And despite his best hopes (see: “I think they love me in Iowa too, Diane!“), I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were him for any respite tomorrow.
