New reporting from the Arizona Mirror reveals that Republican gubernatorial nominee Andy Biggs supports putting cameras in Arizona public school classrooms so parents can monitor teachers he accuses of pushing “woke” lessons and “indoctrination.”
In an October 2025 interview with conservative radio host Garret Lewis, Biggs said he would “absolutely” support cameras in classrooms, arguing they were necessary.
The Arizona Mirror also reports that security and privacy experts have warned that livestreaming classrooms could put students’ privacy and safety at risk and highlights a 2021 security breach in which hackers accessed tens of thousands of cloud-based camera feeds, including cameras in schools and hospitals.
Biggs’ support for classroom surveillance revives a proposal previously backed by Kari Lake during her 2022 campaign for governor. At the time, then-Republican Gov. Doug Ducey raised concerns about putting cameras in classrooms, including the possibility that unauthorized people could gain access to footage of Arizona students.
Biggs declined to comment for the story.
