After frequent promises that the Iran war would be a brief, successful campaign, the conflict has now dragged to the 100-day mark as Americans continue to suffer. And according to recent reporting from POLITICO, Ashley Hinson is now second-guessing her support of the war after being an ardent defender of military action in Iran. Hinson, the Republican nominee for Iowa’s Senate seat, called the war a “political liability” because Iowans have been killed in the military conflict. The war has claimed the lives of at least 13 Americans and has caused gas and fertilizer prices to skyrocket. But even as Americans continue to pay the price of reckless Republican policies, Ashley Hinson is still prioritizing politics over people.
“Ashley Hinson revealed her true priorities when she called the war a ‘political liability’ as a result of Iowans being killed,” said Gus Nathanson, spokesperson for American Bridge 21st Century. “Her chief concern is how the war is affecting her reelection prospects, not the Iowans being put in harm’s way or the rising prices burning holes in her constituents’ pockets. Iowans deserve a Senator who works for them, not their own selfish political ambition.”
Hinson has voted against every single attempt to put congressional checks on military action in Iran – including just this week – despite emphasizing that she wanted the war to be brief.
