Brandon Herrera wants to abolish Social Security, and makes jokes about murdering the elderly. According to recent reporting from MeidasTouch, Brandon Herrera voiced his support for abolishing Social Security on the Unsubscribe Podcast in December, 2024. Despite his campaign website stating he wants to protect Social Security, Herrera referred to it as a “Ponzi scheme” and said he’s “game” to get rid of it altogether. The conversation then took a dark turn, which led to Herrera making the appalling statement, “We should abolish old people.”
“To say that Brandon Herrera’s comments are despicable would be an understatement,” said American Bridge 21st Century Spokesperson Gus Nathanson. “Calling for the abolition of a critical program that Texans rely on and then having the gall to say we should murder the elderly, even in jest, should be disqualifying for a congressional candidate.”

- On an episode of the Unsubscribe Podcast in December, 2024, co-host Nic, who goes by the nickname “The Fat Electrician,” said, “Let’s abolish Social Security.” Herrera replied, “I’m game” and referred to the program as “the literal Ponzi scheme.”
- Herrera later argued, “You mean when the government didn’t trust anybody to actually save for their own retirement? So they said, okay, we’re going to force you to save for your own retirement, but they didn’t put it in your own account or anything.”
- After Nic suggested a different government program that invests $1,000 in account for every new baby, Herrera replied, “Or you can just be a responsible fucking adult and do it yourself.”
- Herrera went on to say, “Yes, we should abolish old people.” One co-host, Eli Cuevas, then said, “We should just start sh-” before cutting himself off. In the context, it appeared that Cuevas was about to say “shooting,” but then cut himself off.
- The hosts then joked about bashing the heads of the elderly with mallets and sledgehammers, which caused Herrera to laugh.
