On Labor Day, new reporting from the Daily Beast exposed that yet another healthcare company under Rick Jackson’s empire was forced to settle devastating labor exploitation claims — adding to a growing pattern of allegations of unpaid wages, denied overtime, and worker exploitation as Jackson asks Georgians to trust his business record to create jobs and run the state.
Among the findings highlighted by the Daily Beast:
- The company, Jackson Nurse Professionals, paid nearly $2 million to settle a class action covering roughly 300 workers who alleged the company failed to properly pay overtime, bonuses, and wages owed when they left their jobs.
- Avant Healthcare Professionals paid $3 million in a separate settlement covering more than 5,000 current and former international workers who alleged the company exploited workers it recruited to the United States. That case was previously reported by CNN.
- Together, the two Jackson Healthcare companies paid nearly $5 million to settle worker claims involving alleged improper pay and exploitation.
- Jackson has made his business record central to his economic pitch, touting the $3 billion company he built and promising to create “more jobs than have ever been created in the history of Georgia” and bring his “business solutions” to state government.
- The Daily Beast also resurfaced Jackson’s “prove” rape audio, in which he appeared to agree with a voter suggesting women should have to prove they were raped to qualify for an abortion exception.
