ICYMI: Husted Accepted Donations from the Data Center Hyperscalers Raising Ohioans’ Electric Bills

Jul 27, 2026

Jon Husted, who has been called “the face of data centers” in Ohio, accepted tens of thousands of dollars from data center developers and hyperscalers during his Senate reelection campaign. According to recent reporting from Punchbowl News, Husted received donations from hyperscalers like Google, Amazon and Microsoft. He also has a record of supporting data center development in Ohio, having praised Ohio’s tax breaks for data center investment, and claiming that those tax breaks would make Ohio “a leading edge tech state in the Midwest.”

“Jon Husted has spent years applauding the rise of data centers as they’ve caused Ohio electric bills to skyrocket,” said American Bridge 21st Century Spokesperson Gus Nathanson. “The fact that he’s still taking donation checks from data center developers shows that he is a champion of the corporate hyperscalers, not the people of Ohio.”

Read more about Jon Husted’s support of data centers in Ohio:

  • Jon Husted accepted donations from hyperscalers like Google, Amazon and Microsoft during his 2026 reelection campaign.
  • During his lieutenant governor years before entering the Senate in 2025, Husted hailed Ohio’s tax breaks for a Google data center investment in the state.
  • As recently as last summer, Husted said the state’s incentives would ensure Ohio is “a leading edge tech state in the Midwest.”
  • Due to the growing unpopularity of data centers, Husted is now claiming that data center proliferation is a result of “supply and demand” economics, effectively blaming everyday Ohioans for rising electricity costs.
    • “The demands for these facilities are being driven by U.S. consumers,” Husted said.
  • Husted has been called “the face of data centers” in Ohio by his opponent, Sherrod Brown.
