Instead of answering questions from Ohioans with disabilities about his policy platform, Jon Husted was busy shooting clay targets. According to recent reporting from TiffinOhio, Jon Husted failed to attend the Ohio Disability Candidates Forum, where candidates can answer questions from Ohio’s disability community. Husted instead attended a National Shooting Sports Month event.
This was not the first time Husted refused to show up for Ohio’s disabled community. Husted voted for the One Big Beautiful Bill, which will decimate Medicaid funding in Ohio. And despite Husted insisting that the cuts would not affect Ohioans with disabilities, studies have found that the Medicaid cuts have put millions of Americans with disabilities at risk of losing their coverage.
“Jon Husted disregarding Ohioans with disabilities is nothing new,” said American Bridge 21st Century Spokesperson Gus Nathanson. “Given the choice between protecting Ohio’s disabled community and shooting clay targets, Husted chose the clay targets. That says it all.”

- Jon Husted was one of 14 statewide candidates invited to sit in front of Ohio’s disability community on Thursday and answer questions written in advance.
- He didn’t show up. That evening, Husted’s social media accounts posted photographs of him shooting clay targets at a National Shooting Sports Month event.
- Husted voted for the One Big Beautiful Bill, which carries the largest Medicaid reduction in the program’s history and is estimated to strip roughly $33 billion in federal Medicaid funding from Ohio over the next decade.
- Husted has repeatedly told Ohioans the cuts will not reach disabled, but disability advocates have spent the past year warning that squeezed state budgets will reach for them first.
- Husted also gutted disability benefits during his tenure as Ohio House Speaker. In April 2005, Husted led the House budget proposal that eliminated the Disability Medical Assistance program.
