Mike Rogers can’t stop lying to Michiganders. According to recent reporting from the Detroit Metro Times, in an attempt to bolster his blue-collar image, Rogers falsely claimed that he would be the first former auto line worker to represent Michigan in the Senate. In actuality, at least two former senators, Carl Levin and Robert P. Griffin, worked in Michigan’s auto industry before their Senate careers.
“Mike Rogers has made a habit of lying to the very people he’s asking to represent,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Gus Nathanson. “And it’s not hard to see why: if he told Michiganders the truth, they’d see exactly why he has no business being their senator.”

- During a June 19 interview on WJR’s “JR Afternoon With Ryan Ermanni,” Mike Rogers stated, “I’m going to be the first guy that’s worked on the auto line, going to be a United States senator from the state of Michigan, which seems shocking to me.”
- Carl Levin, the Detroit Democrat who became Michigan’s longest-serving U.S. senator, worked on auto assembly lines during college.
- Robert P. Griffin, a former Republican U.S. senator and congressman from Michigan, also worked on auto assembly lines before attending college.
- Griffin became a prominent Republican in Washington and withdrew his support for Nixon during the Watergate scandal.
- Rogers has also lied about being a tried and true Michigander; he is running his Senate campaign from Florida and claimed his Florida home as his “permanent residence” in 2023.
- Rogers’ campaign has also published AI-altered images making him look more muscular than he actually is.
