Mike Rogers’ hypocrisy is once again on full display, this time pertaining to the issue of fraud. According to recent reporting from Detroit Metro Times, Rogers has made tackling “waste, fraud, and abuse” a centerpiece of his campaign, but his campaign and political committees supporting him have accepted more than $234,000 from three donors connected to fraud cases.
This includes a businessman whose company paid $9 million to resolve allegations that it improperly obtained a taxpayer-funded pandemic loan and another donor who pleaded guilty to fraud in the notorious Jack Abramoff casino scandal.
“Mike Rogers is a complete and utter hypocrite, talking a big game about cracking down on fraud while cashing checks from literal fraudsters,” said American Bridge 21st Century Spokesperson Gus Nathanson. “As the saying goes, the call is coming from inside the house.”

- Throughout his Senate campaign, Mike Rogers has repeatedly promised to crack down on “waste, fraud and abuse” in the federal government.
- He also praised DOGE and said government programs, including Social Security, needed to have “the waste, fraud and abuse” cut out of them.
- Rogers’ campaign, Team Rogers and GLCF, Inc., a super PAC supporting him, received a combined $127,000 from Jeffrey Cappo, the owner of Victory Automotive Group.
- Victory Automotive Group agreed in 2023 to pay $9 million to settle federal allegations that it knowingly submitted false information when seeking forgiveness for a $6.28 million Paycheck Protection Program loan.
- Team Rogers also received $100,000 from Mohammad Qazi, president and CEO of Ciena Healthcare.
- Ciena agreed in 2007 to pay $1.25 million in Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements to settle a lawsuit alleging inadequate care and improper billing at nursing homes in Michigan.
- Rogers also received $7,231 from Adam Kidan, a Republican donor who pleaded guilty to conspiracy and fraud charges involving his purchase of a casino boat company with disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff.
- Kidan and Abramoff used a fraudulent wire-transfer document to help obtain financing for their $147.5 million purchase of SunCruz Casinos. Both were sentenced to 70 months in prison and ordered to pay $21.7 million in restitution.
- Trump pardoned Kidan last month. The Associated Press reported that Kidan had pleaded guilty in 2005 to fraud and conspiracy and was released from prison in 2009 before becoming a major Republican donor.
