Jon Husted: Corrupt, Out of Touch, and Bad for Ohio

May 06, 2026

Jon Husted is officially the Republican nominee for Ohio’s Senate seat this November. His victory means that the Republican choice will be someone with a prolonged history of corruption, a pedigree of apathy toward the well-being of everyday Ohioans, and a habit of voting for policies that harm his constituents.

“Jon Husted’s record speaks for itself. He’s an appointed Senator who has spent his time in the Senate voting to cut his constituents’ health care and doing nothing as their costs skyrocket. Husted is more concerned about doing the bidding of the billionaires and corporations that send him donation checks than addressing the struggles of common people,” said American Bridge 21st Century Spokesperson Gus Nathanson. “He’ll never be concerned about the needs of his constituents and deserves to be unemployed come January.”

Jon Husted Is Corrupt.

Husted has an extensive relationship with FirstEnergy, an Ohio-based electric utility company that faced charges for bribery after the company pushed Ohio lawmakers to pass HB6, a bill that granted them $1.3 billion in taxpayer-funded corporate bailouts. In 2017, a Husted-aligned organization received a $1 million dark money contribution from FirstEnergy.

Husted also met with FirstEnergy executives just days before HR6 was introduced, and those same executives had frequent “access” to Husted. The bailout law that FirstEnergy pushed for resulted in Ohio households paying $663 more for electricity per year. Husted continued to show his indifference toward struggling Ohio ratepayers by taking $5,000 from Duke Energy this year.

Jon Husted also accepted money from billionaires Marc Rowan and Les Wexner, both of whom are named in the Epstein Files. Rowan, a known associate of Epstein from 2013 onward, donated $7,000 to Husted’s 2026 senatorial campaign. Wexner, who was listed as a potential Epstein co-conspirator, donated $3,500 to Husted this cycle. Notably, Husted accepted $116,892 from Wexner between 2001 and 2025.

Jon Husted Is Out Of Touch.

This past March, Husted said people living in poverty “have no life experience. More recently, he suggested that the solution to pressing societal problems was for people to simply “do more work.” He also made the claim that America’s “work ethic is broken,” doubling down on the idea that ordinary citizens are to blame for their own financial struggles.

Husted Supports The Iran War, Which Caused Gas And Fertilizer Prices To Skyrocket For Ohioans.

Husted indicated support for military action in Iran, voting against multiple war powers resolutions that would require congressional approval to continue the war. In the two months since the war began, Ohioans have seen dramatic increases in gas and fertilizer prices.

Husted Touted Endorsements From Controversial Figures And Surrounds Himself With Questionable Individuals.

In March, Jon Husted brandished an endorsement from Rodney Creech, who was “credibly accused” of sexually abusing a minor. More recently, he touted an endorsement from Portage County Sheriff Bruce Zuchowski, who engaged in voter intimidation and dehumanized immigrants by calling them “locusts.” As if that weren’t enough, Husted’s Sandusky County campaign chair, Gary Glick, reportedly reminisced about talking to young girls about sex.

Husted Supports Cuts To Health Care And Social Security.

Jon Husted opposed the extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies in Ohio, which could result in health insurance premiums in Ohio increasing by 83%. He also defended the Medicaid cuts in the One Big Beautiful Bill, which might cause almost 290,000 Ohioans to lose coverage. Moreover, Husted supported legislation that would cut funding for both Medicare and Social Security.
