Marco Rubio Votes Against COVID Relief for Florida Families

Feb 02, 2021

Just now on the Senate floor, Marco Rubio voted against a budget framework that will lead to much needed COVID-19 relief for Florida families. While Rubio pointed to bureaucratic procedural reasons as to why he voted against helping his constituents, he had no problems using the same procedures to pass tax cuts for his millionaire campaign donors. Newpolling shows more than 2/3rds of Americans support President Biden’s COVID-19 relief plan, including a majority of Republicans.

Among the things Marco Rubio voted against in today’s budget resolution:

  • $1,400 per-person checks.
  • $400 more a week in unemployment insurance.
  • $350 billion in state and local aid.

“Marco Rubio will dole out tax cuts for his millionaire campaign donors like candy, but when it comes to helping his constituents who lost their jobs, he tells them to take a hike,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Zach Hudson. “Florida families are out of work because of the pandemic Republicans bungled, and now Marco Rubio is trying to make the pandemic worse by denying his constituents the relief they desperately need.
