Bobby Charles supported Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” backing health care cuts that would leave tens of thousands of Mainers without coverage, including Medicaid recipients, trigger massive Medicare reductions, and rescind tax credits that experts warned would increase energy costs for Mainers. He supported work requirements and the largest SNAP cuts in history, making it harder for Maine families to afford food. Charles praised Trump’s DOGE agenda and said he wanted to bring it to Maine, even as those policies disrupted Social Security services, cut funding for nonprofits, and threatened thousands of jobs across the state. Charles also pushed an extreme anti-abortion agenda, promoted election fraud claims that Maine voters overwhelmingly rejected, and supported sweeping changes to Maine’s elections. Charles also floated a Maine version of Florida’s failed “Alligator Alcatraz,” called for closing the northern border, and embraced immigration policies that would cause legal, environmental, and economic harm to Maine communities.
