After spending years criticizing the Biden Administration and Democratic leadership for high gas prices, the current cohort of Republican Senate candidates is now praising President Trump’s war in Iran, despite the fact that it is directly disrupting oil supply chains and making gasoline drastically more expensive. Republican candidates in Georgia, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, and Texas have made affordability an integral part of their platforms, yet they are applauding an illegal war that is creating a significant financial burden for their prospective voters.
“The hypocrisy among Republican Senate hopefuls is rampant and shameless,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Gus Nathanson. “After spending the entire 2024 election cycle running on the issues of affordability and reining in government spending, they are now supporting a reckless military conflict that is putting financial strain on the very voters they are trying to win over.”
The national average gas price as of March 10 is $3.54, which is up 20% from last month. Iran’s effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial shipping lane for oil tankers, in response to Trump’s war is expected to continue to negatively affect the global oil supply and gas prices in the United States.

Georgia: Gas prices in Georgia have surged by 44 cents as a result of the Iran war, creating financial turmoil for Georgia residents, and all three Republicans vying for the Senate are putting their full-throated support behind the gas price-hiking war:
- Buddy Carter blamed “Bidenomics” for high gas prices in 2024, then proceeded to give Trump credit for lower gas prices the very next year, citing it as part of Trump’s affordability agenda. Now, Carter is fully behind the President’s military actions in Iran, claiming Iran is an “imminent threat.”
- Mike Collins blamed “government interference” for rising gas prices in 2021 before claiming that Georgians were “thriving” under Trump’s leadership. Now, Collins has thrown his full support behind Trump’s actions in Iran.
- Derek Dooley praised Trump for the “lowest gas prices in five years” and claimed that Americans are “still recovering from Biden and Ossoff’s economic failure.” Now, Dooley is fully embracing Trump’s war.
Iowa: Gas prices in Iowa have spiked as a result of Trump’s actions in Iran, with experts predicting that gas prices could continue to rise at the pump in the weeks ahead. All the while, Ashley Hinson is in support of the actions that are the primary cause of this problem that is affecting Iowans.
- Ashley Hinson claimed that gas prices “dramatically” increased when President Biden entered office in 2022, then went on to say that Trump rolling back Biden’s energy regulations lowered gas prices for Iowans. Now, she is declaring that Trump’s war in Iran will make the world “a safer place” and is placing her full trust in Trump.
Maine: Gas prices in Maine have notably climbed as a result of the Iran war, according to multiple reports. The average price of a gallon of gas was $3.33 on Saturday, which was up 42 cents from a week before.
- Susan Collins complained that gas prices in Maine went up $1.30 in 2021. In 2022, she stated that rising gas prices reminded her of the “bad old days”. But now, Collins fully supportsTrump’s war and voted against a War Powers Resolution that would have required Trump to receive Congressional approval before launching more strikes.
Michigan: Gas prices in Michigan shot up 60 cents from last week and could reach $4 per gallon as a result of the Iran war. This includes a 25-cent increase in just two days.
- Mike Rogers credited Trump for bringing down gas prices and celebrated Trump’s economic wins last November. Now, he is fully supporting Trump’s war in Iran, asserting that Trump’s strikes on Iran “probably should have happened a long time ago.” In a recent campaign video, he ardently expressed his support for the President’s “Peace Through Strength” agenda.
Minnesota: Gas prices in Minnesota are continuing to climb, up 30 cents from last week, according to multiple sources.
- Michele Tafoya praised Trump for lowering gas prices and touted that gas prices were at a “five year low” in January. Then, on March 2, she declared that the Iran war “had to happen” and praised President Trump for his willingness to take action.
New Hampshire: Gas prices in New Hampshire have risen by 14%, or 41 cents per gallon, in just one week, all while John E. Sununu praises the presidential actions that are fueling higher prices at the pump.
- John E. Sununu boasted that gas prices were down in late February. A few days later, Sununu stated that the United States is “absolutely” safer due to the Iran war, and lauded Trump’s military action as “a pivotal moment for the region and the world.”
North Carolina: Gas prices in North Carolina have risen sharply as a result of the war, despite Michael Whatley’s claims that they would not. Increased gas and jet fuel prices are causing anxiety for North Carolinians across the Tar Heel State.
- Michael Whatley repeatedly attacked President Biden on the issue of affordability, claiming that Biden “failed us on inflation” and that gas prices reached record highs under the former President. He then applauded President Trump in 2025 and earlier this year for lowering prices at the pump. Subsequently, Whatley congratulated Trump for acting “decisively” in Iran and placed his full trust in Trump to “execute on this mission.” In addition, Whatley made the claim on March 2 that America would be insulated from rising gas prices due to the Iran war.
Ohio: Gas prices in Ohio hit their highest levels since 2022 as a result of the Iran war. Notably, they increased by 65 cents in one week, which Ohio residents have described as “ridiculous.”
- Jon Husted claimed that Sherrod Brown supported “radical policies… which would jack up gas prices” in 2022. He also accused President Biden’s policies of “driving up gas prices over $5 a gallon.” Husted indicated his support for the Iran war, stating that Trump took “action to address the threat” that Iran posed to America.
Texas: Gas prices in Texas have spiked in Texas as a result of this conflict, causing financial worry for people across the Lone Star State.
- Ken Paxton claimed that President Biden’s “radical agenda” caused gas to cost $5 per gallon in 2022. He then applauded President Trump’s leadership regarding Iran, calling it a “historic and overwhelming military success.”
- John Cornyn blasted high gas prices in Texas under Joe Biden and said Trump was “helping consumers with low gasoline prices.” Cornyn also praised Trump for the “political courage” to start a war with Iran.
