American Bridge president Jessica Mackler released the following statement on the Senate Judiciary Committee’s vote on Neil Gorsuch to be a Supreme Court justice:
“It’s as clear as the Colorado River that Neil Gorsuch will not serve the interests of the American people if Senate Republicans force him onto the Supreme Court. Throughout the confirmation process, Gorsuch has indicated he will continue his far-right judicial activism and side with corporations at the expense of working families.
“The overwhelming opposition to Neil Gorsuch shows Donald Trump must change his nominee if he doesn’t reach the standard 60-vote threshold applied to every Supreme Court justice’s confirmation. If Republicans bulldoze the sanctity of Senate rules meant to promote bipartisanship, they will be giving Trump and Gorsuch free reign to inflict irreparable damage to our country at a time when the judiciary is needed more than ever to stop Trump’s attacks on our national and economic security.”
