In yet another test of her so-called independence, Susan Collins chose to stand with Donald Trump instead of standing up for the Constitution. Collins voted against a war powers resolution that would have required congressional approval before further military escalation with Iran, a basic check on presidential authority. At a moment when American troops could be drawn deeper into conflict, Collins once again declined to assert Congress’s constitutional role.
“For years, Collins has branded herself as an independent voice willing to break with her party,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Danny Abbas. “But when it comes to holding Trump accountable, she reliably falls in line. Mainers deserve a Senator who defends checks and balances, not one who consistently rubberstamps reckless foreign policy decisions.”
