Donald Trump Violates The Constitution On Day One

Trump’s refusal to sell his stake in his business is causing a constitutional crisis

It has only been a few minutes since Donald Trump raised his right hand and swore to uphold the Constitution, but he has already violated his oath of office. By failing to sell his business and separate himself from innumerable foreign conflicts of interest, Trump is breaking the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause which bars payments from foreign leaders to government officials.

“Donald Trump started Day One of his presidency with a giant target on his back for foreign leaders looking to bribe their way into the Oval Office or dictate national security decisions,” said American Bridge President Jessica Mackler. “But he does not seem to care that this is against the law because it can mean billions for his bottom line.”

The Constitution’s Emoluments Clause is not an outdated relic from another era. […]

The Reviews of Trump’s Phony Plan To Profit From Presidency Are Brutal

Americans are seeing Donald Trump’s decision to keep his massive conflicts of interest for what it is: A phony plan cooked up by his lackeys that allows Trump to profit from the presidency starting on Day One.

The non-partisan Director of the Office of Government Ethics blasted Trump’s scheme as “wholly inadequate” and said, “We can’t risk the perception that government leaders would use their official positions for professional profit.”

Not only will Trump be able to use his presidency for profit, he even admitted his sons are merely running his business until he’s out of the White House in four years, where he’ll continue to reap profits from his administration.

Statement from American Bridge President Jessica Mackler:
“It’s clear from Donald Trump’s disastrous press conference that he fully intends to cash in on his presidency. Following a shameless display of theatrics, Trump refused to separate himself from his business […]

Under Oath, Tillerson Denies Knowledge Of Exxon’s Iran Lobbying

Under oath, Rex Tillerson just claimed that Exxon did no lobbying against Iran sanctions during his time as Exxon’s president then CEO.

This despite the fact that Exxon hired lobbyists to, in a company spokesperson’s words, “[monitor] activities related to Iran in the U.S.” government — and that Exxon submitted lobbying reports specifying a focus on Iran sanctions legislation.

American Bridge President Jessica Mackler issued the following statement:

“Rex Tillerson dodged sanctions to do over $53 million-worth of business in Iran. And under Tillerson, Exxon lobbied against sanctions so it could do even more business with Iran. If Tillerson knew about the lobbying, he just perjured himself testifying before Congress.”

2015: Bloomberg Reported Exxon Hired A Lobbyist To Influence Iran Sanctions That Prevented U.S. Corporations From Doing Business With Iran. According to Bloomberg, “Exxon, the world’s largest publicly traded crude producer by market value, hired the lobbying firm founded by […]

Trump’s Russia Ties Run Deep

American Bridge President Jessica Mackler issued the following statement in response to Donald Trump’s false claim that he has “nothing to do with Russia” ahead of this morning’s press conference:

“Donald Trump is grasping at straws in the wake of embarrassing news reports the Kremlin cultivated compromising blackmail material on him over the last five years and engineered his election. However, while we don’t know what additional classified details our intelligence agencies have about Trump’s close ties to Russia, plenty of public reports discredit Trump’s ridiculous defense that he has ‘nothing to do with Russia.’ It has been widely reported that Trump and his family have sought business opportunities with Russia for decades. In fact, his own son said ‘Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets.’

“There is only one way Trump can square these statements–come clean and immediately release his tax returns. If the American […]

American Bridge Statement on Russia Blackmailing Trump

American Bridge President Jessica Mackler issued the following statement on reports that the Kremlin has compromising blackmail material on Trump and Trump’s campaign worked with Russia:

“Now that Russia is claiming Putin has material to blackmail Donald Trump, we know why Trump is siding with the Kremlin and threatening our national security. We already knew all the different ways that foreign countries and adversaries could bribe Trump, but the Russian government holding compromising information over Trump clouds every decision Trump and his Administration will make as president.

“In tomorrow’s press conference, Trump needs to come clean and immediately release his tax returns to prove that Russia has no business leverage over him — and if it isn’t business conflicts, then we need to know how exactly Trump has been compromised and what Russia has on him.”

American Bridge On Rex Tillerson’s Nomination Hearing

Ahead of Rex Tillerson’s nomination hearing in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee this Wednesday, American Bridge President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“Rex Tillerson has a near 20-year friendship with Vladimir Putin. He’s done over $53 million-worth of business with Iran, a state sponsor of terrorism. He opposes American energy independence. And he’s overflowing with conflicts of interests, because ‘divesting’ doesn’t erase Tillerson’s 41-year career at Exxon and the Big Oil loyalty and social capital investments that go along with it.

“At Exxon, Tillerson by his own admission pursued an independent foreign policy often diametrically opposed to American interests; why should we believe Tillerson will change and look out for America first and foremost, rather than help Trump enrich himself, as Secretary of State?”

American Bridge Statement On Trump’s Latest Pam Bondi Kickback

Donald Trump today signaled that he’s gifting Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi a White House job as his latest payback for her dropping her investigation into his sham Trump University.

Trump’s previous Bondi kickback consisted of a $25,000 campaign donation that was disbursed from his charitable foundation and resulted in Bondi dropping her Trump University probe. Trump’s foundation is currently under investigation for that donation as well as for other pay to plays and instances of self-dealing.

American Bridge President Jessica Mackler issued the following statement on Trump’s latest Pam Bondi kickback:

“Trump’s hiring of Pam Bondi is just the latest example of Trump trading shady political favors and proceeding down a path toward open corruption.

“Trump’s flagrantly unethical behavior before he’s even taken the oath of office is a travesty and sure sign that Trump intends to do everything he can to profit off the presidency while enriching himself and his family at the […]

Trump’s Billion Dollar Bonanza

Within his first 100 days, Trump and his family are set to make billions off policies that hurt the American people

Donald Trump hasn’t even taken office yet, and he’s already abusing the office of the presidency to financially benefit himself—with the help of congressional Republicans. Today, Politico revealed that Trump and his family are set to make at least $4 billion under new Republican policies pushed by Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell. If the GOP takes healthcare away from millions of Americans, guts consumer protection rules on big banks, and slashes taxes for billionaires, Trump will profit.

“This is an unprecedented — and unconstitutional — move only a predatory billionaire would try and pull off. Trump’s not even in office yet, and he’s already trying to rig the system against working Americans and make billions for himself,” said Jessica Mackler, President of American Bridge 21st Century. “Instead of selling off his stake in his […]

American Bridge Statement on Trump Capitulating to Vladimir Putin

American Bridge President Jessica Mackler issued the following statement on Trump’s nomination of multimillionaire Vladimir Putin ally and ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson to be his Secretary of State:

“As he shrugs off CIA reports that Russia tried to influence the election, Donald Trump is adding a Big Oil multimillionaire who’s buddies with Vladimir Putin to his cabinet of Wall Street executives.

“Rex Tillerson’s boosters include the KremlinRepublicans who are paid consultants for Exxon, and even conspiracy theorist Alex Jones; those are the types of people Trump wants to impress. Tillerson’s critics: Republicans like Lindsey Graham, John McCain, and Marco Rubio. Even they admit that Tillerson can’t be trusted.

“As president, Trump plans to sell out to the highest bidder, whether American or foreign. That’s why he’s surrounding himself with special interest shills who bring conflicts of interest and Russia ties to rival his own.”

Trump Keeps the Con Going, Postpones Cutting Off Business Ties

American Bridge President Jessica Mackler issued the following statement on Donald Trump’s continued plans to profit off the presidency:

“Donald Trump is a corrupt liar. He promised to release his tax returns; then didn’t. And after pledging to eliminate his ability to profit off the presidency, he’s now refusing to even talk about it.

“Trump knows his only option is to totally divest, but he can’t bring himself to do it, because he wants to profit off the presidency. So like a con man, Trump is offering bait and switch after bait and switch, playing the American people for suckers as he gets ready to take office and rob us blind.”
