Yesterday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Georgia Republican U.S. Senate candidate Herschel Walker lied about being in law enforcement at least three times during speeches before entering politics.
Via the AJC:
- Walker claimed to have “work[ed] with the Cobb County Police Department,” but the department has “no record of involvement with Walker.”
- He also bragged about “spen[ding] time at Quantico at the FBI training school” and being an “[FBI] agent,” but “Walker is not an agent — that would require a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and Walker left UGA before earning his degree.” (No word yet on whether Walker could face repercussions for falsely claiming to be an FBI agent — a violation of federal law.)
- Walker even “used his alleged law enforcement ties to justify why he has had a gun,” such as when he “pursued a man who was late delivering a car.”
- To put it bluntly: “[T]he claims, which appear to have halted since he entered the U.S. Senate race, aren’t true.”
While Walker may not have lied about being a police officer on the campaign trail, he has nevertheless been caught in a web of lies and misrepresentations. He has spread Jan. 6 and 2020 election lies, promoted dubious health products, exaggerated his business record, embellished his academic achievements, and even lied about a “charity” which turned out to be a for-profit program that “preyed upon veterans […] while defrauding the government.”
