Donald Trump is once again dangling a check in front of voters, this time as a reward if Republicans hold onto Congress in November. Trump has made variations of this exact promise three separate times since retaking office, and each time the money has never actually shown up.
Here’s the record on every check Trump has promised and failed to deliver:
- $5,000 “DOGE dividend”: In February 2025, Trump said he “loves” the idea of sending Americans a $5,000 check funded by DOGE savings, a plan that depended on $2 trillion in cuts DOGE never came close to finding.
- $2,000 “tariff dividend”: In November 2025, Trump promised at least $2,000 a person funded by tariff revenue, a promise that still hasn’t materialized almost a year later.
- $1,000+ from ACA “savings”: Trump has floated sending Affordable Care Act subsidy money directly to consumers instead of insurers. Instead, he let the subsidies expire, sent healthcare premiums sky-high, and priced millions out of healthcare.
None of these checks have ever gone out. Trump is now recycling the same promise a fourth time, dangling it in front of voters as an incentive to keep Republicans in power this November.
Voters should ask Republican candidates one simple question: If the last three checks never came, why should anyone believe this one will?
They won’t.
