Just last Monday, the Trump administration rolled out what it branded an “economic D-Day” against Tehran, promising a plan to cripple Iran and bring an end to the war. That plan was short-lived as U.S. forces struck two Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island Sunday. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard vowed retaliation and responded by firing on U.S. forces stationed in Jordan hours later.
Six months into a war he still cannot explain how to end, Trump has no strategy beyond the next talking point or wildly dishonest AI-generated video on social media, and troops in the region are the ones paying for it.
Donald Trump still cannot answer the one question that matters to Americans: how and when does this war end?
- No coherent strategy. Trump has cycled through airstrikes, a naval blockade, and now sanctions branded as an “economic onslaught,” without ever laying out how any of it forces Iran to the table. Treasury’s own announcement conceded it was holding off on the biggest penalties, leaving Tehran’s revenue streams largely intact while gas prices rise at home. Experts say the sanctions escalation is unlikely to force Tehran to capitulate, which means the cycle of strikes, retaliation, and risk to troops just keeps repeating.
- Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has collapsed. Traffic through the strait is running at roughly 20 percent of its pre-war average, and the Trump administration has failed to stabilize energy markets after throwing them into chaos after months of military action.
- American families are footing the bill. Gas prices have climbed to about $4.10 a gallon nationally, nearly a dollar more than a year ago, a direct hit to budget-strapped households with no relief plan attached.
“More than six months in, Trump still doesn’t have a plan to end this war, just excuses for why families should keep paying for it. Every dollar added at the pump and every week troops spend in harm’s way is a debt Trump and the MAGA Republicans who backed this war owe to voters,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Brandon Weathersby. “Voters do not forget who sold them a quick war and delivered an endless one. Come election day, the politicians who cheered this on will find out that their constituents’ patience runs out long before the war does.”
