New Ad Slams Trump for Putting China First in Coronavirus Crisis

American Bridge Counters Trump Super PAC’s Smears in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin

Today, American Bridge announced the first wave of a $15 million campaign to counter false smears from Trump’s super PAC, American First Action, with the facts about President Donald Trump’s dithering, weak-kneed, and outright acquiescence to China during the growing coronavirus crisis.

The new ad slams Trump for his early, repeated praise of China’s handling of the crisis. Trump even sent China 17.8 tons of masks, respirators, and other medical supplies to China as America has faced critical shortages.

The new ad ships to stations today and will begin airing next week – matching the GRPs (gross ratings points) of America First Action’s television current TV buy for the next two weeks in every single one of the same media markets: Grand Rapids, Flint, and Traverse City, MI; Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Wilkes Barre, Johnstown, and Erie, PA; Green Bay, La Crosse, and Wausau, WI. The initial investment in the campaign totals $2 million.

“Donald Trump sent critical medical supplies to China as Americans continue to suffer. He needs to follow his supposed motto of America First,” said American Bridge President Bradley Beychok. “We’re making sure that voters across Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin know full well not only how badly Trump botched this crisis, but also how badly he bent the knee to China in the midst of it as well. Hardworking Americans are paying for the president’s failures, and we’re not going to be shy about holding him accountable.”

This new ad will be the first in an offensive that will define Donald Trump and his children’s dangerous record in regards to China. Also included will be a micro-targeted online campaign attacking Trump’s family and associates on corruption, nepotism, and foreign dealings. This will mark the start of an all-out assault on Trump and his family over their corruption – in China and other countries – involving foreign bribes, political favors, shady real estate investments, and parties with dictators.

Recent research by American Bridge and other groups have shown that Trump’s lack of preparation, dishonesty, and bad judgment in dealing with the crisis around coronavirus has become his biggest political liability, particularly his sending of critical medical supplies to China even as his administration warned the virus would become a threat.

Since last year, American Bridge has spent over $11 million in an effort to weaken Trump’s support with white working-class voters in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
