Trump's Own Officials Already Proved Him Wrong on the 2020 Election

Jul 16, 2026

Donald Trump has spent nearly six years lying to the American people that the 2020 election was stolen. His own administration told him otherwise, in writing, on the record, in real time.

  • Trump’s Justice Department, run by his own hand-picked Attorney General William Barr, reviewed the claims and found nothing. Barr told the Associated Press that to date, investigators had not seen fraud on a scale that could have affected a different outcome in the election, including on the specific claim that voting machines had been programmed to skew results.
  • Trump’s FBI Director Christopher Wray told the Senate Homeland Security Committee that the FBI had not seen any kind of coordinated national voter fraud effort in a major election, by mail or otherwise.
  • Trump’s own cybersecurity chief went further still. Chris Krebs, the Trump-appointed director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, joined election officials nationwide in declaring the 2020 election the most secure in American history, with no evidence any voting system deleted, changed, or lost a single vote. Trump fired Krebs for saying it.
  • Even Trump’s Director of National Intelligence, John Ratcliffe, told CBS News that no intelligence showed any foreign adversary or criminal group had the ability to change voting results. The intelligence assessment his office produced found no indication that any foreign actor altered any technical aspect of voting, ballot casting, tabulation, or reporting.
  • Trump and his allies took their claims to court anyway. Judges appointed by Trump himself, alongside judges appointed by presidents of both parties, dismissed case after case for lack of evidence, and dozens of lawsuits went nowhere.

Every arm of Trump’s own government looked for the fraud he described, and none of them found it.
