We’re not surprised that JD Vance failed to deliver on peace talks in the Middle East over the weekend. Not even Trump showed much faith in his vice president, mocking Vance’s weight loss and saying he’d blame Vance for an unsuccessful outcome.
We had every reason to doubt Vance’s ability to deliver on the biggest stage of his career. After breaking Senate ties to push through Trump’s dangerous and unqualified cabinet nominees early in the administration’s first year, Vance has repeatedly failed to deliver when put in the spotlight:
- Vance tried his best to impersonate Trump in a condescending speech at the 2025 Munich Security Conference that only served to alienate every major European ally.
- Vance then met with and publicly boosted Germany’s far-right AfD party in last year’s national elections, only for the AfD to be kept out of running government weeks later.
- Vance visited Greenland on a diplomatic mission after numerous threats from Trump to acquire the country, only for Greenland officials to make it clear that his presence was not welcome and that the country was not up for grabs.
- Vance recently flew to Budapest days before Hungary’s election to personally campaign for Viktor Orbán. Hungarians responded by humiliating Vance and Orbán with record voter turnout, which threw out Orbán after 16 years in power.
Vance’s latest embarrassment after 21 hours in Islamabad is a specific kind of indignity for someone who abandoned all of his principles, including opposing war in Iran and using the U.S military to police every region in the world, to become vice president.
“JD Vance abandoned his opposition to foreign wars, military overreach, and even his own family when they were attacked by racist, extreme right-wing MAGA supporters, all to become the most recognizable errand boy in the world. Vance once called Trump ‘America’s Hitler,’ and now he’s turned himself into Trump’s lapdog trained to fetch whatever Trump wants from across the globe. The problem is he’s got the abilities of a wide-eyed pug rather than a golden retriever,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Brandon Weathersby. “Trump said he likes to be surrounded by losers so he feels better about himself. It makes sense that he picked someone who would trade their soul for power, but can’t meet the moment when their number is called.”
