As Virginians learned yesterday, Glenn Youngkin’s commitment to Donald Trump’s Big Lie about the 2020 election extends as far as refusing to rule out the fantasy that “the courts” will somehow reinstate the disgraced former president — a position to the right of Marjorie Taylor Greene.
This follows months of Youngkin insisting that baseless conspiracy theories about the 2020 election were the top issue in the Virginia governor’s race and the announcement that he intends to participate in a two-day “election integrity” rally organized by a participant in the January 6th insurrection.
Youngkin’s willingness to indulge Donald Trump’s Big Lie raises an important question for Virginia voters: will Glenn Youngkin commit to accepting the results of the Virginia governor’s race in November?
“Glenn Youngkin is stuck between the fever swamp fantasyland of his diehard MAGA supporters and the majority of Virginians who, as members of the reality-based community, reject Donald Trump’s toxic, dangerous conspiracy theories,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Max Steele. “Since he clearly is too weak to tell Trump supporters the truth about the 2020 election, Virginians have a right to know: will Youngkin commit to accepting the results of the 2021 election or will he side with Donald Trump once again in his attacks on our democracy and continue to peddle the Big Lie?”
