How To Lose A Senate Majority In Nine Months

Feb 15, 2016

The “Party of No” is back in full force. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is going full obstructionist against any Supreme Court nominee put forward by President Obama, and he’s taking vulnerable senators with him. Senators Kelly Ayotte, Ron Johnson, Richard Burr, Rob Portman, Roy Blunt, and John McCain are already publicly supporting McConnell’s plan to block a confirmation — a risky move that could cost them their seats. By choosing obstructionism, the GOP isn’t just risking their control of the Senate — they’re also choosing to keep a Supreme Court seat vacant for two court terms.

For years, the Republican Party has been governing crisis to crisis. Their latest decision to prevent a Supreme Court nomination is irresponsible and damaging to the very foundation our country was built on. If Mitch McConnell and his cronies in the Senate want to ignore their constitutional duties because it is politically inconvenient, then the Republicans are in for a rude awakening come November.
