Today is the second anniversary of the Dobbs v. Jackson U.S. Supreme Court decision, which marked the end of almost 50 years of precedent protecting bodily autonomy and the right for all Americans to make their own health care decisions.
In response to this anniversary, American Bridge 21st Century Co-Chair Cecile Richards released the following statement:
“Two years ago today, three Supreme Court justices hand-picked by Donald Trump to overturn Roe v. Wade ended nearly 50 years of the national right to abortion. Since then, we have witnessed the horrific, deadly effects of this decision on a daily basis. As a direct result of Donald Trump’s actions, 14 states and counting have banned abortion completely. It is harder to find prenatal care, give birth safely, and build families through fertility care. Abortion bans are driving doctors out of hostile states and shaping college students’ choices about where to go to school.
Health care decisions should be made between patients and doctors. Instead, Donald Trump and his Republican Party have made it their mission to involve themselves in this decision for every American, and they’re not going to stop until there’s a federal abortion ban. The only way to repair the damage and restore the right to abortion is by re-electing President Biden and Vice President Harris, and preventing a Republican majority in the House and Senate.”
