With wins in key battleground states like Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Arizona, and Nevada, Democrats have defied history and expanded their majority in the United States Senate.
In response to these Senate victories, American Bridge’s leadership have released the following statements:
“We have a lot to be proud of. Democrats were able to appeal to ordinary people in communities all over this country — specifically, voters in rural areas,” said Gov. Steve Bullock. “The Republican Party has gone too far with its attacks on abortion access, Medicare and Social Security, and its promotion of dangerous candidates. On Tuesday, Americans overwhelmingly rejected Trump’s handpicked candidates and sent a clear message to Washington.”
“The democratic process works at its best when more citizens are brought in. The extraordinary turnout we saw from young people, women, and communities of color shows just what’s possible when folks show up to vote,” said Gov. Deval Patrick. “While Republicans were peddling lies about the 2020 election, Democratic candidates were laying out a vision to deliver for American families. While there is still much to be done, we can keep working for the American people in the U.S. Senate majority.”
“Tuesday’s results for the U.S. Senate races were a critical blow to the Republican Party, and shows just how much they have alienated themselves from everyday Americans,” said Sec. Tom Perez. “By nominating embarrassingly unfit candidates like Dr. Oz, Blake Masters, and Adam Laxalt, Republicans proved that they are completely incapable of recruiting good candidates.”
“Protecting abortion was a top issue for voters, and they showed up to send the GOP a clear message,” said Cecile Richards. “Thanks to voters, organizers, and folks on the ground, we prevented a GOP majority in the U.S. Senate. While we should certainly celebrate, there is still so much work to be done – the GOP is not going to stop, but we won’t either. The Democratic-controlled Senate will deliver for American families.”
“Democrats defied the political odds and secured the Senate majority,” said David Brock, founder of American Bridge 21st Century. “In the House, Republicans have underperformed in terms of recent midterms since 1994. The Republicans never had a plan for dealing with inflation or crime, their campaign was a fraud. All the Republicans in the House are interested in is cutting middle class entitlements and partisan payback. No matter what happens, Republicans are stuck as the party of Trump, but thankfully–we now know for certain that the U.S. Senate will be there as a safeguard for millions of Americans that the Republican Party would otherwise and immediately marginalize.”
