American Bridge released a video today holding Governor Rick Scott accountable for his role in a growing controversy over the heat-related deaths of 11 senior citizens living in a Florida nursing home.
In the wake of Hurricane Irma, the nursing home lost power and went without air conditioning for several days. Nursing home officials called Scott’s cell phone four times for help during that time, but received no assistance. Scott has since deleted those voicemail messages, which may have broken the law. The American Bridge video features Florida and national news coverage of the controversy.
“Instead of admitting his mishandling of the tragic situation at a Florida nursing home, Rick Scott is trying to pass the buck onto his own government employees,” said American Bridge spokesperson Joshua Karp. “As usual, Rick Scott refuses to take personal responsibility for anything, even with Floridians’ lives at stake.”
