Today, Senate Republicans once again blocked protecting in vitro fertilization (IVF), contradicting their public support for the procedure. Senators Rick Scott, Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, and Deb Fischer — who are all seeking re-election — have previously claimed to support protecting access to IVF. Scott is even running campaign ads in Florida claiming to support IVF. However, their latest vote reveals their hypocrisy and a stark disconnect between the GOP and the views of most Americans on reproductive rights. While anti-abortion GOP Senate candidates nationwide attempt to portray themselves as advocates for IVF, their actions speak louder, demonstrating a clear disconnect from the values and needs of the American people.
“Senators Rick Scott, Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, and Deb Fischer’s hypocrisy on IVF underscores the Republican Party’s refusal to support and protect reproductive rights. Voters already know the GOP’s damaging stance on abortion – and each vote against protecting IVF only deepens their credibility crisis,” said American Bridge 21st Century Senate Communications Director Nico Delgado.
Other GOP Senate candidates who oppose protecting IVF:
- Bernie Moreno opposed federal protections for IVF and campaigned against IVF protections in Ohio.
- Tim Sheehy refused to support federal protections for IVF.
- Mike Rogers co-sponsored legislation that put IVF at risk, and refused to commit to federal protections for IVF.
- Dave McCormick refused to commit to federal protections for IVF.
- Sam Brown refused to commit to federal protections for IVF.
- Kari Lake opposed federal protections for IVF.
- Larry Hogan refused to commit to federal protections for IVF in the GOP primary.
- Hung Cao refused to support federal protections for IVF.
