As Donald Trump’s OMB is causing chaos that threatens to withhold funds for programs that provide affordable health care, early childhood education, and nutrition and food assistance for low-income women and children — just to name a few — House Republicans are in Doral, Florida, scheming about other ways they can hurt their constituents.
Just today it was reported that Appropriations Chair Rep. Tom Cole said the spending cuts they are considering includes funding for Social Security and Medicare. And while he and vulnerable House Republicans like Reps. Don Bacon (NE-02) and Derrick Van Orden (WI-03) are yucking it up at this lavish GOP retreat, states are being frozen out of their Medicaid programs and food assistance programs for vulnerable children could be put in the lurch.
“The GOP-led House has made clear their priority is steering Americans’ tax dollars to the billionaires who will never have to worry about heating their homes, putting food on their tables, or paying their medical bills,” said American Bridge spokesperson Philip Shulman. “This is a betrayal that could hurt Americans in every corner of the country and one that could have been avoided if Republicans like Bacon and Van Orden defended working people in their districts.”
