Bolstered by a super PAC funded with at least $10 million from surveillance-tech billionaire Peter Thiel, Thiel employee Blake Masters today entered the Arizona GOP U.S. Senate primary, ensuring that Arizona Republicans will have a long, drawn-out, and messy primary on their hands.
Thiel’s support for Masters follows his parallel efforts to buy Ohio’s GOP U.S. Senate nomination for JD Vance, who likewise previously worked for him.
Masters has been signaling his campaign for months and indicated that he stands with the rest of the Arizona Senate GOP field in their efforts to give credibility to Republicans’ sham “audit” that has the effect of “Republicans suppressing their own voters,” who they are supposed to be running to represent.
“Surveillance-tech billionaire Peter Thiel’s effort to buy this GOP Senate nomination for Blake Masters ensures that Arizona Republicans will face a divisive and drawn-out disaster of a primary,” said Brad Bainum, American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson. “These GOP primary candidates’ inevitable arguing over who supports Trump more, as they each help to undermine Arizona voters’ 2020 ballots, could not be any more out of touch with the Arizona electorate.”
