“For me, there is no compromise on abortion. It makes no difference to me why or how that child ended up in that womb.” – Mark Robinson
As North Carolina’s gubernatorial primary election came to a close this evening, state Republicans are now left to deal with a massive headache this campaign season; and for once, it’s not Donald Trump. The Trump-endorsed nominee, Mark Robinson, has made a name for himself in right-wing extremist circles for being one of them, all while alienating huge swaths of voters — and it’s not hard to see why:
- Robinson wants to ban all abortions with no exceptions, and said he would do so if he has a willing legislature.
- Robinson went so far to say there should be “dire consequences” for those who perform abortions.
- Robinson claimed that Joe Biden “stole the election” from Donald Trump and that the January 6th rioters were “political prisoners.”
- Robinson called the Holocaust “hogwash,” flirted with Holocaust denialism by discounting the six million Jewish people who were murdered in this genocide.
- Robinson called the LGBTQ+ community “filth,” called homosexuality “an abominable sin,” and said he would “absolutely” try to pass a law that confined marriage to between a man and a woman.
- Robinson has called climate change “junk science,” said that Black people were better off before the Civil Rights Movement, and made fun of school shooting survivors.
