Today, the Arizona Supreme Court overturned the state’s 15-week abortion ban and instituted an even more extreme ban from 1864, which could jail abortion providers for two to five years and makes no exceptions for rape or incest.
In response to the ruling out of Arizona, Donald Trump’s campaign endorsed the decision telling reporters, “President Trump could not have been more clear. These are decisions for people of each state to make” — despite the law being passed before the majority of Americans, including women and many people of color, had the right to vote.
The ruling comes one day after Trump took credit for the fall of Roe, doubled-down on his position to not protect abortion care at the federal level, and called states’ ability to pass abortion bans a “great victory.”
In response to the breaking news, American Bridge 21st Century Presidential Campaign Communication Director Brandon Weathersby released the following statement:
“The chaos unleashed on reproductive health rights in states like Arizona, Texas, Alabama, and Florida was brought to you by Donald Trump himself. It’s only fitting that his campaign is finally accepting Trump’s role as the face of the anti-abortion movement in the United States.”
