Republican Congressman Ken Calvert (CA-41) has backed the GOP’s budget resolution, a measure that could result in millions of Americans losing access to health care and groceries. This decision comes at the expense of critical support for working families, all to give a massive tax break to billionaires.
“Calvert betrayed his 138,000 living, breathing constituents who relied on him to protect their health insurance. I’m sure the billionaires will appreciate their tax cuts. Voters will not forget,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Nico Delgado.
The budget resolution would cut Medicaid up to $880 billion and SNAP up to $230 billion. Californians who depend on Medicaid and SNAP will suffer as a result:
- Approximately 138,200 (21%) of Calvert’s constituents in California’s 41st District are covered by Medicaid, and more than 30,000 have used SNAP.
Calvert has a history of betraying constituents who rely on him not to cut their health care, despite promises:
- Calvert said Republicans must use the budget reconciliation process to extend tax cuts but “we are not interested in cutting the social and health care safety net for children, disabled, and low-income Americans.”
- Calvert previously voted for a Republican package that could have taken Medicaid coverage away from nearly two million Americans.
