Clark County resident: Lombardo puts “political ambitions before our safety”

Apr 18, 2022

It’s not been a great week for Joe Lombardo.

Fresh off bruising attacks from Dean Heller — an opponent in the Republican gubernatorial primary in Nevada — about Lombardo’s previous support of Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak, there is more bad press for the Clark County sheriff.

While a central component of his pitch to Nevadans has been his record in law enforcement, Clark County residents have always made it clear that Lombardo’s “law and order” record is not as spotless as Lombardo’s campaign ads would make it seem.

In a letter to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, 37-year Las Vegas resident Donna West writes that she feels that Lombardo has ignored the “recent surge in crime in our community” as he’s been out on the campaign trail and away from the people he is sworn to protect in Las Vegas:

“While families suffer here, he’s off campaigning for governor,” writes West. “Sheriff Lombardo is putting his political ambitions before our safety. For someone campaigning on his public safety career, this is disqualifying. He doesn’t deserve a promotion when he can’t even do his current job.”

Las Vegas Review-Journal: LETTER: Where’s Sheriff Joe Lombardo as crime rises in Las Vegas?

By: Donna West | April 15, 2022

  • I’ve lived in Clark County for 37 years. As a mother and grandmother, the recent surge in crime in our community, particularly murder and gang violence, is devastating. Murders rose nearly 50 percent last year and are following the same trend this year. Every day, I read stories of the latest robbery or murder or kidnapping. Yet it’s never enough to get Sheriff Joe Lombardo’s attention. While families suffer here, he’s off campaigning for governor.
  • Sheriff Lombardo is putting his political ambitions before our safety. For someone campaigning on his public safety career, this is disqualifying. He doesn’t deserve a promotion when he can’t even do his current job. If you come across Joe Lombardo on the campaign trail, don’t listen to his campaign talking points about keeping us safe. Look at his record. Actions speak louder than words.
