Last week following his failed campaign announcement, Michigan Republican gubernatorial candidate James Craig was recorded saying he will do “whatever I can” to prevent Democrats from overturning Michigan’s unconstitutional abortion ban. Should a bill reach his desk to repeal it, as governor he would veto the legislation and let the state’s 1931 total ban on abortion stand.
According to the Detroit Metro Times, Craig’s commitment to a 90-year-old dormant law in Michigan would allow the abortion ban to go into effect should Roe V. Wade be overturned – an increasingly likely result as the Supreme Court prepares to hear a direct challenge to Roe v. Wade in December.
