Ted Cruz was faced with a supporter who told his story about needing immigrant workers to support his dairy farm, but instead of facing facts, Cruz repeated his rote points about securing the border and attacking immigrants.
More so than any other candidate in the GOP field, Ted Cruz has copied Donald Trump’s flagrant anti-immigrant rhetoric and adopted his hard-line anti-immigrant policies as his own. Ted Cruz:
- Opposes a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants;
- Opposes DACA and the DREAM Act;
- Says that he will use Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to “look for” and forcibly deport the 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the U.S.;
- Supported Arizona’s “Papers Please” law;
- Suggested that immigrants are responsible for the opioid epidemic; and,
- Seems to support self-deportation.
Don’t waste your time looking for daylight between Trump and Cruz’s extreme anti-immigrant views, because there’s no difference and Ted Cruz is actually trying to run to the right of the GOP base’s favorite xenophobic demagogue.
