“This is the textbook definition of collusion. The President’s son, son-in-law and campaign chair meeting with a Russian agent who was offering to aid his campaign right before they would launch a cyber attack on American citizens and our election amounts to a smoking gun in this ongoing scandal. While the special prosecutor explores criminal charges against these traitors and the rest of Trump’s inner circle, Congress must convene an independent commission to investigate how this happened and recommend policy changes to prevent this kind of attack in the future. With Americans in New Jersey and Virginia going to the polls in less than four months, and the country voting in midterm elections in 2018, there is no time to waste.
“Additionally, while the President — by his own admission — is under FBI investigation, and in light of his inner circle having colluded with at least one Kremlin affiliated individual, we cannot allow Trump to appoint a new FBI Director without intense scrutiny. Congress owes it to the American people to ensure Russia’s influence over our government goes no further than it already has.”
